He was finally arrived at the station, and just at that moment, he sensed a presence. A presence which he knew now: a Persona-user. Though it was a bit faint, now that he was used to it, he acknowledged this presence.
Hironori looked around the place, and then he spotted a familiar figure. A boy with glasses, using the same uniform as him. He knew that boy, but somehow he forgot his name. That boy was at the hanami back then.
Could it be...?
Curious, he approached the boy and spoke slowly, inclining his head. “You are... the one at the hanami, right?”
The boy with glasses seemed shocked a little when approached, and stuttered. “Eh—ehm... yes.”
“Ah, you’re also from Shizumida too, then. If you were at the hanami back then, so... you know Yoshi and Ino-kun?” Hiro asked.
The boy looked confused at the names. “Eh—Yoshi? ...Oh—Renge-senpai, isn’t it? And... Chiura-kun.” Then he nodded. He was a bit reluctant, but also felt so tense that he finally asked. “A-Are you... also from Shizumida?”
Hiro laughed lightly. “Of course, we wear the same uniform, don’t we?” He began to take a step to the exit. “We should talk on the way, or we will be late.” He smirked kindly.
The boy just nodded and followed Hiro from behind, eventually walked beside him. After they were out from the station, Hiro spoke again. “So I assume you’re my junior, then.”
“Ah—yes, I’m a 2nd year.” The boy answered sheepishly.
“I see. So, where do you know Yoshi and Ino-kun? From playing that game, too?” He just hoped his question not too obvious. Well, of course the boy won’t tell anything about having Persona thingy. He just have this hunch that the presence came from this boy, and have something similar with Yoshi and Chiura. But maybe, if he gets along with him, he would get some useful info.
Actually, I won’t even bother about them as long as they’re not in the way. But it wouldn’t hurt to be aware who he will face later. “Yoshi really likes to play that kitty game on her phone. Do you like it too?”
The four-eyed boy stuttered again. “Eh? U-umm... I... don’t really like to play games...”
“Oh.”
The boy turned his head to Hiro. “You play kitty game, Senpai...?” He asked.
“No. I mean, I like cats, but I don’t play such game,” Hiro chuckled. “But well, I have to admit, the game is really cute.”
Wow... the boy was a bit surprised by his senior’s response. “You already know Renge-senpai for long, don’t you? I’m... not really close with Chiura-kun nor Renge-senpai. I was just... tagging along with them because I only met them once in a café.”
“I see.” Hiro replied. “Well... not really that long. I mean, we already met since 1st year, but we just get to know each other this early year.” Then he suddenly remembered the time when Renge peeked him dancing at the studio. He unconsciously rubbed his nape at the memory.
He snapped out and caught the boy mentioning “café”. “Oh? If I may know, which café did you guys usually gather? My classmate is having a part-time there.”
He’s... being too familiar, isn’t he? The younger boy thought. “Oh, really? Umm... I’m sorry, I forgot the name... it’s too hard to spell.”
Hiro snickered. “Ah, unfortunately I also forgot the name, too. I think the café has a name like... celery or something.”
“Oh, yes, the café I know has a name like that too.” The boy chuckled lightly. “It looks like the celery café is really popular.”
“Really?” Hiro inclined his head. “Don’t really know. I only know that café because my friend works there. Maybe I’ll get a friend discount.” He joked.
The boy smiled a little. “Well, sort of. Because I met Renge-senpai there, and Chiura-kun also go there. And then you too. The cakes are delicious and the atmosphere is really calming.”
“Yes, I have to agree on that.” The taller boy nodded.
Then the boy asked, “Oh, by the way Senpai, may I know your name?”
“Hm? Ah yes. Isao Hironori. And you? If I’m not wrong, you were coming with an old man, right?”
“Katsumi Satoru. Nice to meet you, Isao-senpai. And yes, he’s my relative.” Satoru bowed lightly. To be honest, Senpai and Uncle are a bit same. Curt faced, but I don’t know if he’s good or not... Oh, but if he knows Renge-senpai, so he should be good, then...? The four-eyed boy contemplating mentally.
Katsumi Satoru. Noted. Hiro nodded and smiled. “Nice to meet you, Katsumi-kun. I want to call you Katsu-kun, but it’ll make me hungry,” Hiro joked with a chuckle. “Later on, I will call everyone’s name by food.”
“Ka—...” The boy shut his mouth and silent. That was kind of unexpected. Sometimes his uncle also liked to joke like that. Then he just laughed lightly. “Senpai’s name also can be called by food too. Nori,” Satoru followed the joke. “Katsu with slices of nori is really tempting,” he added with a chuckle.
Hiro raised his eyebrows and smiled widely, laughing then. “So you’re saying I’m good to be sliced on top of katsu?”
“Oh... I think that’s too much.” Then the boy stared at Hiro’s hair. “Maybe just part of the hair—oh sorry, never mind.” What are you doing, you’re not even close with him yet.
Hiro laughed mirthfully. “I’m so glad I finally find someone I can joke with. You’re really funny, aren’t you? Compared to Ino-kun. That brat is really annoying. We just met, and he already bothered me with his problem.”
Satoru hummed. “Maybe he has something in his mind. He just entered high school, anyway, so maybe he needs some time adapting.”
“Well,” Hiro scoffed. “If it was a problem, I can clearly see that, but that’s not my business. If I went back to the class back then and not opening the rooftop door, I don’t know what would happen to that kid.”
“Eh?” Is this something that I shouldn’t know? ...not my business, huh. That wasn’t wrong, he thought as he stared to the ground.
“Ah, well, he was doing something stupid that I have to stop him before he went further. That’s all.” The raven haired shrugged. “I could just left him behind, ignored him and mind my own business. But, I don’t know what made me run to him and bother myself to stop him. Seconds later, I already brought him to health unit room. So bothersome.”
“Eh... health unit? Chiura-kun—“ attempted suicide? Satoru asked mentally. He really didn’t know if he has such kind of underclassman. “Uh... I think you did the right choice, Senpai.” Lies. He’s not a God who can say right or wrong on every situation. Even if Chiura wanted to suicide, he doesn’t know what makes him to do such thing. He won’t judge.
“Hmm.” Hiro hummed and shrugged. “Well, I thought so too. Because...” I was almost, too. He shrugs before continuing,“... Because it’s not good to hurt yourself, right?”
“Eh—um, yes...” It’s a difficult question, and again, he can only lie. That’s not a strong statement, he thinks, as if only holding a strand of hair.
He also noticed that his senior and his colleague are close.
“Why suddenly are we talking about this?” Hiro chimed with a light laugh. “Didn’t we talk about food earlier? Anyway, if you want to call me Nori, that’s fine by me. You’ll be the second one who call me that name,” he added with a wide grin. The presence is still lingering until now. Could it be? Hironori thought as he observed his junior silently.
Maybe. Could be. If it is, then the people back at the hanami were... but before he made a conclusion, he stopped himself. He couldn’t make another enemy, not when he’s progressing on his plan. He already has many problems on the way, he doesn’t need more.
“Ah—hahaha.” Satoru laughed flatly. He’s not really minding about the other one who call his senpai “Nori”—it must be his friend, right? If not, who else? His upperclassman unexpectedly talkative, but caring his own problems, not really the kind of people he meet recently.
Satoru walked casually beside Hiro, who he thought was kind of a scary person because he looks so serious. But he didn’t know why his senior remind him of his uncle, one of the closest relative than his own parents. Maybe he’s not that scary... he thought. And could be said that this was also the first time he walks to school with his upperclassman.
Then suddenly he remembered something faint. If his brother still lives, he will be one year above Satoru. “Ah...” he said lowly by reflect.
“Hm?” Hiro thought his junior said something, but he’s not sure.
“Oh—ah, nothing!” Satoru awkwardly laughed it off. Maybe this is how it feels to have a brother? “Senpai, do you have siblings? Or are you the only child ...?”
“Oh. I’m all alone. Relatives... not really know. I only have my aunt now,” he replied with a shrug and wide smile.
“O-oh, I see...” A bit concerned and curious about his senior’s parents’ wellbeing, but that’s probably not polite to ask about it.
In the other hand, Satoru thought again. Is this it? Is he my brother’s replacement? Is God sending me another ‘brother’ for me so I won’t be alone? ...Ah no, no, no one can replace my brother. I’m such a stupid and rude person.
He felt so sorry for his late brother, but he couldn’t help that he has the need to connect with other people.
Hiro tilted his head curiously. “What about it? How about you, though?” Not really his problem though, but the sudden question asked by Satoru makes him wonder a bit. “Well honestly, I never thought of how it feels to have siblings,” he added with a shrug.
“Me? I’m the same as you,” Satoru replied with a smile. “That’s why I was a bit surprised to know that we’re similar...” he continued.
“Oh... yeah.” If he thought about it again, the existence of his brother was really short one. Satoru never once meet his brother, so he also doesn’t know how it feels when he have one. Then he remembered Romeo, his distant relative who he meet almost every time because they went to the same school. Romeo is the same year as Hiro, and Romeo also cares about him, but somehow there’s a different atmosphere that emitted from each of them.
“Hmm if I had to have a brother, surely I don’t want it to be like Ino-kun. He’s really annoying. I’m really amazed with his brother for being able to handle him. But then again, Aru is as bothering,” Hiro whined, letting out an exasperated sigh. “Well, maybe I’d rather be alone. But you seem like a nice kouhai, like Shiro-kun. Maybe I won’t refuse of having a brother like you,” he added with a wide grin.
Satoru just laughed plainly. He didn’t want to judge, but he also thought that both of them quite problematic. But it doesn’t mean Satoru doesn’t like them, at least he’s quite close with Chiura because they had an open-hearted talk back at his uncle’s house several months ago.
“Shiro... Ah, Yuuto-kun. Yes, he’s really nice person.” Lies again. Satoru thought Yuuto is nice but somehow he doesn’t like the lies Yuuto say, both expression and heart are not synchronized. But then he realizes, he, too, is like that. So, all this time he hates people that actually the same as himself.
“Thanks, senpai. I take that as a compliment,” Satoru smiles.
Hiro smirked and gave a friendly chuckle. Then it went quiet again.
He really wanted to ask this kid about the people back at the hanami. He glanced left and right. If this presence really came from him, maybe this was coincidence no more. There was Daisuke, Chiura and Renge, whom he just got the info from Shimamura. And then this boy...
But actually Hiro doesn’t mind. He doesn’t care as long as they won’t get in his way. But he also feels the need to know who these ten Persona-users are he felt back at the hanami, so he would be aware of them.
He doesn’t know if there someone else that has the same power as Renge. That kind of power is really bothersome. But judging from Satoru’s reaction, maybe he doesn’t feel the same presence as Renge feel toward him.
Well. Hiro is not a policeman, who can just interrogates anyone as he likes, no need to pay attention at the time and place. He has patience.
“Speaking of family,” Hiro started again. “That time when you came to hanami, you weren’t alone, right? What’s his name again? You said he’s your uncle, right?”
“Yes, just call him Kazama. Atsushi Kazama.” There’s an agreement between them since the first time he stayed at his uncle’s house for not doing any stupid action like giving his name to strangers. That would endanger his uncle’s investigation.
“Oh? Your last name is different. But well, me with my aunt too, though.” Hiro felt that something wasn’t right, but he just shrugged it off. Probably he didn’t remember it right.
“To be honest, you and uncle looks... similar... somehow.” Oh don’t start with stupid words like that, trying to get close to Isao-senpai, Satoru.
“... Really?” Hiro frowned. “... At least I believe that I look a little bit... you know, friendly? And... I don’t have beard,” he joked. “... And I won’t want to princess carry strangers. Your uncle is funny indeed.”
Satoru chuckled. “If I may say, senpai and uncle look difficult to approach, but once you know him, it’s actually easy to have a talk with him.” Then his eyes widen a bit, “Eh, even a girl?” Satoru thought, isn’t that what the westerns do when they get married?
“Hmm is that so? I rarely get mad, you know. I even never hit anyone! But it seems people will always judge anyone by their looks...” Hiro sighed. “If a girl... well, maybe depends. As long as she won’t scream or do that... weird smile, well, maybe I would,” he added the reply with giggle.
Satoru giggled back at his senior’s words. “Yes, I understand that. My uncle is the same, always get judged by his looks,” he grinned simply.
As Hiro snorted at his junior’s reply, they were already arrived at their destination, Shizumida high school.
“Well, here we are. Nice to talk with you, Katsu... mi-kun, haha. See you later, then.” Hiro waved his hand at Satoru and left to his classroom.
Satoru only waved back at his upperclassman with a smile that half-happy half-holding himself for not being so familiar much. And so, he walked to his classroom. With this, I can talk with Renge-senpai... as before then he didn’t have a topic to talk about aside from asking about how the Good Guys are doing because he’s new to the ‘group’.
Hironori looked around the place, and then he spotted a familiar figure. A boy with glasses, using the same uniform as him. He knew that boy, but somehow he forgot his name. That boy was at the hanami back then.
