Helen has a trauma. She should’ve known.
Of course, for almost 15 years the girl had been in that lab being an object for a sinful experiment humans could ever make. She’d been there being tortured, being forced to follow every orders, being held captive and kept away from the brightness of the sun.
She knew, that was why she tried to be kind to her in every way she knew how. Being patient, giving what she needed, being there beside her.
But what she did not know was Helen has a great fear of fire. A phobia, human named it. Alexa is not a therapist, nor she ever treat any human with fear. So this kind of situation was really troubling her. She knew it would take a really long time to overcome one’s fear, and patience, to be completely honest, is not Alex’s forte.
Not only that. There's a possibility that Helen may also has fear of being screamed at, Alex thought.
Give her any kind of physical injuries or diseases, be it a broken bone or even cancer, Alex could heal them with only a tap of her pointer finger. But healing or easing anything related to mental condition is out of her league.
It would be one of those first times for her, taking care of human with a mental condition. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she has to do it. Before those damned scientists got to her again.
Alex sighed and started taking steps forward into the depth of the big wide cave. While she was walking, she thought of words should she use to ease Helen’s troubled mind. She let the small river lead her where Helen ran to.

A week had passed and she has fully recovered. Her weight had returned to normal, her skin hadn’t pale anymore, she could walk normally and her voice sore no more. She had also learned lot of new things, she even tried to read a book. Although she was still stiff in expressing her feelings, but that could be work on along the way. The most important thing right now was her physical condition, that she was strong enough to handle the power inside her that she might not realized yet.
Alex had sealed Helen’s right eye, which it was the very source of her Demonic power. The humans had a superstition: if a demon took over your consciousness, you’re being “possessed”. You became a host, the demon could take over your consciousness and body at any time they’d like.
While Helen, it was a completely different case.
To be honest, Alex didn’t fully understand how the experiment worked, how the Demon could be silent inside the host yet the human could use their power. She could sense the Demon’s cognition inside the girl. Though it was quite faint that she barely sensed it, she knew it was there, nesting inside her subconsciousness.
Back at the lab, she knew Helen was being controlled by a device planted inside her. But now that Alex had removed it, she didn’t quite know what would happen if there was nothing controlling the Demon. But as long as the seal remained, Helen was safe from the harm of her own power.
She couldn’t take it away from her, she didn’t know what kind of risk could affect Helen. But one thing she knew if she let her be, the Demon eventually would take over her, sooner or later. She couldn't place the seal on her eye forever, too.
Because the doctors were still roaming around. They succeeded in capturing this wild Demon and made them to become an object of their experiment. Along the years, they finally achieved their goal, and Helen was their first. They could be out there searching for her, to retrieve her or even only the Demon inside her.
So before they got her back to their hands, Alex made sure Helen could defend herself, took a full control of her power so she couldn’t be used for their sick ego.
She called Helen to the bathroom. She wished there was a better place to do this, but they were in a hotel, and the only source of big amount of water and most private was here. At least this room has a bathtub.
Alex had provided Helen casual clothes; a gray T-shirt with a black jacket and fitted jeans. While Alex herself, well, with her usual favorite patterned long blue coat. They were about to leave, standing before the half-filled bathtub.
“You have fully recovered, so I will answer your “why’s” questions.” Alex started. “But before that, we will go somewhere else.”
Helen tilted her head. “Where is that?”
“In an open secluded field. Somewhere around a big wide cave, maybe.” Alex shrugged.
“How do we get there?” Helen asked blankly.
Alex turned her head to the bathtub. “Through here.” After she said that, the water whirled around in the middle, creating a whirlpool in a gentle flow. There was a faint image of their destination; a wide cave with a waterfall near the entrance, creating a small river through it. The outside of it was covered with green moss and bushes.
Helen quietly stared at the whirlpool with wide eye.
“Get in,” Alex ordered.
The black haired girl turned her head and looked at Alex rather confusedly.
“It will take you there. I will follow after you,” Alex informed.
Didn’t know what exactly was happening, Helen just nodded and stepped into the whirlpool very carefully, as if it was going to swallow her. She sat on the rim of the bathtub when both of her legs entered the water. She didn’t feel her legs touch the surface of the bathtub. She looked at Alex again with blank expression, but Alex knew she was being unsure.
Alex sighed. She proceeded to move beside the girl, taking her shoulders with an arm and bring her close. “Hold your breath. We’re going in together.”
Helen nodded, taking a deep breath and hold it in. Then Alex jumped into the whirlpool, bringing the girl along with her. As both of them dived in, the water returned to its natural flow on the bathtub, leaving no trace.

They were standing before the cave’s entrance. Despite after diving into the water, they were dry, no sign of wetness, thanks to Alex’s ability.
The moment they stepped onto the ground, Helen was looking around with her curious lone eye. She seemed so impressed of her surrounding, witnessing the blue sky, the white cloud, the waterfall, feeling the wind breeze and the green plants. All of this was new to her, the nature of Earth.
“Helen,” the brunette called.
The girl turned her head and stared at Alex. Her eye was still twinkling in fascination.
“The reason why I brought you with me,” Alex began to explain, her arms crossed on her chest. “Is because you have an inhuman power within you.”
Helen tilted her head.
“You are the first successful experiment by those doctors. They were finally able to infused this power into you, making you able to control it… under them. So before they’re going to use you further, I came to retrieve you.”
Helen was quiet, seemingly trying to comprehend what Alex was saying. Then she asked, “They were keeping me there to give me this power?”
“‘Give’ is not the correct word. They were forcing you to have it, whether you like it or not.” Alex squinted her eyes as she thought of those mad doctors have done to this innocent girl.
“Oh.” Helen stared down. “What is this power?”
Alex took some steps toward Helen and gently put her left hand on the girl’s covered eye. “This eye of yours is the source of your power. If you let it open, the power within you may take over your consciousness. This power couldn’t be handled so easily, especially when you’re just recovered. The last time you used this, you were in the brink of death.”
Helen blinked. “I used this power before?”
“Yes. You were controlled by those people in that lab, and you probably weren’t conscious. Now that you are no longer under their control, you have to be able to control it yourself.”
“Why do I have to?” Helen asked.
“Because they might after you again. If you gain full control of this power, you can fight them off.”
“But aren’t you here with me?”
Alex raised her eyebrows, caught off guard by the plain innocent question. She was quiet, until she sighed and answered. “I won’t be always here with you. Someday, when you will be alone, the only one who can help you is yourself.”
“But didn’t you already help me? Will you not do it again, then?”
The question was genuine and simple, but to answer it wasn’t so simple.
Alex just found a new personality in a human, who was being kept away from the outside, from social need for more than a decade. All of her time was spent with group of vile humans with dark intentions. She craved for help. For light.
But Alex wasn’t sure if she could be her light. She had never done this before in her entire lifetime. This was also new to her, like Helen was new to human kindness and the nature. Saying that Alex was experienced in taking care of human was a mistake. Although this human in front of her is no longer ordinary, she's still human.
So Alex tried to answer with carefully chosen words. “You cannot always depend on someone who just saved you once. Now that you have the chance to be stronger, wouldn’t it be better if you could protect yourself with no one’s help? Not all people out there are like me, you know. They may ignore you when you’re in trouble.”
“Oh.” Helen bowed her head again. Her lone eye peeked through her hair to look at the woman in front of her. “So… is that mean you won’t protect me?”
Alex frowned. “If I’m away, I won’t be able to protect you. Like every mornings several days ago, that I have to go for hours. Imagine if one of those times, those doctors would come to get you. What will you do?” She asked rather seriously.
Helen stared down. She was quiet, seemingly trying to search for an answer. “Won’t you come to save me again?”
“Maybe, but if I don’t know this time, when I come way too late, those doctors will do anything to get you back. I can brush off those doctors easily, but what if I’m not beside there with you? Will you really wait for me to save you when the doctors are coming to return you back into that hellish lab again?”
The girl flinched a bit. Probably she was imagining the situation, when those thrashes would get to her and getting back being caged. She shook her head. “I don’t want to return to the lab.”
“That’s what I thought. So, what will you do, then?”
Helen raised her head slowly. “Can I run away from them?” She asked innocently.
“Perhaps, but you can’t run forever. They’re everywhere around the place, around the continents,” Alex replied patiently.
The girl looked down again and quiet for a few seconds. “What should I do, then?”
Alex smirked softly. “Fight them. That’s the only way.”
“How?”
“I’m about to show you now. Once I release a fraction of my seal on your eye, you will get a small amount of your power. We will take it slow, because we don’t want you to be dead another time, do we?”
She shook her head.
“Good. Are you ready?” Alex stared through the girl’s eye and placed her hand more firmly on her covered one.
Helen nodded.
Alex placed her thumb on Helen’s right eye, opening a little bit of her icy seal there through the blind. She could directly feel the demonic power trying to free itself, but she only allowed a small amount of it to flow through the girl’s body. Once she felt it was enough, she closed the seal again, brushing the blind with her thumb and let go of Helen’s eye.
The brunette stepped back from the girl. “Now, do you feel anything?”
Helen blinked a few times. “I feel… something warm filling me.”
Alex nodded. “Lift your hand and try to command that flow to gather to that hand. When it’s gathered, give it another mental command to manifest on your palm.”
Helen did as told, lifting her bandaged right hand, frowning a bit as she tried to focus. But as minutes passed, there was nothing happened. “I… I don’t understand how to do it.”
“Relax, don’t be tense,” Alex said. “Close your eye to focus. Imagine the flow like a river that stream through your body.” She projected the image by water from the river. It flowed in front of her, forming a human anatomy streaming with liquid.
“Make that stream directed to your desired place and gathered to become one, making a large pool of your power.” The human shaped water lifted its hand part, and the stream of its body slowly gathered on its palm, whirling on its center. “Don’t rush it, be patience. Let it flow naturally.”
The black haired girl watched the humanoid water created by Alex quietly. Then she nodded and tried once again, following Alex’s example. She closed her eye and felt her flow of power, commanding it to gather on her hand. It was slowly forming into a pool of warmth, swirling in the middle of her palm. It was getting bigger as the flow keep gathering together.
“Now, burst that pool out.”
She did, imagining the pool burst out a fountain from its center. Helen felt a familiar heat on her palm. She opened her eye slowly.
There was small fire forming and floating above her palm.
Startled, she stumbled, stepping back until she fell onto the ground. She was frozen for a moment, not moving an inch, but her breathing suddenly became erratic. Then with quiver, she lifted her right hand. She looked at it with horror. Never been her eye was opened that widely, her face showed a clear emotion.
“Wh-- why there was fire on my hand?” She trembled.
“It’s your power.” Alex answered shortly as the humanoid water dissolved back to the river.
“M-- my power? W-what do you mean? H-how can I--”
“Helen--”
“--it stings, it burned me, it hurts, I d-don’t want to--”
“Helen--” Alex stepped forward.
Helen dragged herself back. “-- I-- I don’t want this-- I never wanted any of this--”
“I know.”
Helen finally looked up, her face was still pale with fear. “S-So w-why did you do that to me? What-- what have you--”
“It wasn’t me.”
“--If it wasn’t you, then why--”
“Because you were in that fucking lab, Helen!” Alex screamed, finally ran out of patience.
Helen gasped a short and quick air. She stared at the woman standing before her in disbelief, her eyes looking up and down at her. She was trembling even more, moving away from Alex slowly. "You… As-- as I thought, you--"
Alex shook her head. "No, Helen--"
"You're the same as them--"
"I am not one of them,” Alex snapped.
Helen shut her eye tightly at the snap. Then she opened it again a little, peeking through her eyelid. "Y-you may not but you're just the s-same, aren't you?"
"I am completely different than those thrashes, Helen, do never think I'm the same as those fucking scientists!"
"You tried to make me to be able to stand with fire! They did the same to me. I-I don't want to do it again!" Helen began to raise her voice.
"You have no choice but to face it--"
"I have faced fire in my whole life! In that lab! Those past days before this and right at this moment I thought you're going to take me away from the very thing that I'm scared of!" Her eye watered, her jaw was stuttering as she was saying her words hurriedly. Perhaps this was the first time she was talking this long in one go.
Alex stunned for a short second, her eyes widening in realization. At this very moment, Alex just knew of Helen’s situation. The moment when she just realized the girl was in great fear, and it wasn’t just an ordinary fear.
She tried to approach the girl in distress and tone down her voice. "Helen, listen to me--"
Helen suddenly stood up, taking ungraceful steps backward. "No! Stay away!"
Alex stilled on her ground. Her face frowned with concern.
She was huffing and breathing hurriedly. "I… I don't believe you anymore. I don't want to trust you.” Her lone eye shed a tear, she was beginning to sob. “You're a liar." With that last words, Helen ran into the cave, not looking back once.
The brunette let her be, watching the girl's back slowly gone from her sight.
The moment they stepped onto the ground, Helen was looking around with her curious lone eye. She seemed so impressed of her surrounding, witnessing the blue sky, the white cloud, the waterfall, feeling the wind breeze and the green plants. All of this was new to her, the nature of Earth.
